Nauset Beach Report
Nauset Beach Report
The beach remains in great condition. The back trail is open and dry from the gate house to the Chatham inlet. The front beach trail is flat and straight from trail one to trail four. The front beach is closed between trail 5 and 7 due to the steepness of the beach and is not passable at high tide. It is recommended the trail 5 not be use until the beach in that area builds. Between trails 2.5 and 4.5 there is amble room for ORV parking.
The town or Orleans reports that they have one bird nest just south of trail 3 at this time that they continue to monitor. The Town of Chatham reports 7-8 areas at the Chatham inlet past trail 7 where pairs of plovers are beginning to establish nests. There is symbolic fencing in these areas, but are still open to vehicles.
The conservation on April 22nd was a great success. Several SCV spent the weekend on Nauset which we have not done so in a few years. 40 volunteers participated on Earth day to do a general beach clean up and put in a few miles of symbolic fencing for the Town of Chatham.
Nauset oversdand stickers are on sale as on May 3, 2012. The process remains the same as years past. Prices for the season and current beach conditions on their website.
