Race Point Beach Report
For the Memorial Day Weekend the Race Point North SCV area is very small, so Russ Hughes has agreed to allow escorts across the protected bathing beach... The first escort will be at 7 PM Thursday, next escort is 8 AM Friday and then again at 7 PM Friday night, also the same times for Saturday. Vehicles must stage in the third tier lot to wait for the escorts, legally stickered campers are allowed to sleep in the third tier until the escort times. NO vehicles will be allowed on the protected bathing beach without an escort.

Message from the Seashore 6/6/13
Peter,
Wanted to inform you of a change to the beach for the coming weekend. As of tomorrow morning the Race Point South Access will be closing. At that time there will be no SCV areas on either the north or south beach. Parking will be permitted in the third tier of the Race Point Beach parking lot.
As of now there are two separate reasons for the closure. First with the weather forecast for tomorrow night and into Saturday, I most likely would have had to close the beach. A concern has also arisen with the location of a plover nest adjacent to the access on the South side of the beach. Due to these concerns the decision was made to close the South. I will be in discussions tomorrow to try to come up with ways to mitigate the concerns, but as of now the South beach will not be re-opening after the storm passes.
Russ

Race Point Beach Report, June 12th
The nest that was on Race Point South was lost earlier this week, it was the only plover nest on the south side. The pair is still there and will probably re-nest. There is one plover pair at Old Harbor with no nest as of June 10. Of course the terns will still be a pain in the butt and could cause closures on the south side, but it looks good for right now, it’s too early to hope for another 4th of July on the beach, but my fingers and toes are crossed! If you can take vacation early, this is the time to go! I have no word of the nesting activity on the north side or Hatches harbor but there were nests to the left and right of the north side access trail the last I heard. Peter

Race Point update from Craig & Russ... Race Point north won't be opening soon unless there is predation. Race Point South looks good for the next few weeks unless something unforeseen happens. At this point the pole line road to the crossover and around the Race looks good and Hatches Harbor spit could reopen in the next couple weeks. Heavy predation is taking place so things are very fluid. In addition to the recent closure of Race Point North, the following changes have occurred oversand. Yesterday, Race Point South was able to be re-opened to Exit 8. A plover nest has hatched North of High Head implementing vehicle prohibition except for emergency response. A new nest was located less than .5 miles South of Coast Guard Beach. Due to the location of the nest the beach beyond the nest site is impassable. Just prior to reaching the nest the beach is extremely narrow. Therefore, Coast Guard Beach is going to be temporarily closed until conditions change.
