F.Y.I. Anyone using a booster/amp to increase reception out on Race Point there is a hearing coming up on the possible banning of cell boosters. Boosters are not regulated by the FCC and are quasi illegal. The phone companies are trying have them made illegal saying they disrupt their systems. Too bad their systems aren't as good as they claim. If you are concerned about this I suggest you get in on a campaign that has been started by action@hear-me.org I sent them my years of complaints to AT&T and they really appreciated it. E-mail them and you will get directed to a page with more info. If the cell service was good as the money we pay for it, boosters would not be needed. johnmmba1210 action@hear-me.org

I explained to AT&T with the amp I got 3-6 bars from Boston to Hyannis and asked why I have no service. Their reply was a very snotty certified letter explaining that the National park service will not allow towers on govt. land and told me to shut off my amp or else. They never addressed the bars and no service. Now the cell companies are after us amp users instead of fixing the problem. The towers across the bay just need some gear to work for their customers from Hyannis north. As I write this I am 1600 feet up in the Mass. Berkshire Mountains getting spotty AT&T sevice with my amp in the RV only, while Verizon customers have no problem. On the Race Sprint works and off shore oil rigs also need amps. The cell providers pay for the privilage to use tax payer maintained public airways for profit in a poor fashion. I will now do any thing I can to disrupt an arrogant company that attacks amp users freedom to use those airways in a manner that works to supplement their poor service.

I use an antenna on a painters pole, works very well, however you need a phone with an antenna jack and they are hard or impossible to find these days (my phone is a Motorola and a couple of years old). The good news is that they are planning to put a cell tower at the WWTP, T-Mobile, and the permitting will allow T-Mobile to lease space on the tower to others, hopefully this will happen before next summer. I use Wilson Electronics SOHO model with one of their highly direction dual band antennas that has a white plastic cover and is very compact. There are variations of their gear, they have one that can be attached directly to the back of a cell phone, I haven't tried that one. I have their flat panel antenna in the camper. The glitch with that is the antennas have to be 25' apart or they conflict. Wilson Electronics is the ONLY brand to buy I tried others and they were garbage. I was camped in northern RI last week no one had reception while I had 3-6 bars in the RV. Again, the antenna is directional and I have to park so there is no conflict, know where the towers are and can't point the antennas at each other. There are web sites that show where towers are. Some Wilson units are not so technical but I haven't tried them. At home I use Wilsons Desktop (DT) model and it works excellent in my over insulated house in a VERY,VERY, poor reception area. And, as I said above, the Cell industry is trying to outlaw amps. Until they improve their equipment everywhere I will never turn mine off. www.wilsonelectronics.com There is a website you can go to that is fighting for use of cell boosters because of spotty service go to action@hear-me.org if you are interested and add your voice to the campaign. You thoughts will go to legislators.
