A short section of beach, about 1/10 of a mile is open at High Head, nothing for SCV's as yet.
Keep in mind that fledge dates are still estimates and anything can happen, as with what just happened at Hatches.

As of today we are able to open approximately 1 mile of beach to the North of the High Head access. This area will also include a Self Contained Vehicle area. Self Contained Vehicles will be limited to 34 feet in length as the larger vehicles will not be able to maneuver the access. The High Head area is now open to pets.
The seals continue to be south of the High Head access about halfway between High Head and Head of the Meadow. The area has been posted with signs warning visitors to keep their pets and themselves away from the seals.
Looks like the end of the month or more before we see RPN OR RPS for SCV's. Hopefully sooner than later...

Peter, On Sunday August 7th the park will be celebrating it's 50th anniversary. As part of this celebration numerous events are going to be held throughout the park, including several events at the Province Lands Visitor Center. A listing of events can be found at the Visitor Center or on-line at www.nps.gov/caco/cape-cod-national-seashore-50th-anniversary.htm If Race Point Beach is not open to SCV parking by Saturday August 6th all vehicles parked at the Province Lands Visitor Center will be asked to move. A Self-Contained area has been established at High Head for SCV's 34 feet in length and under. An area for SCV's is also established at the Pilgrim Heights area. Self-Contained vehicles must be removed from the Visitor Center parking lot by 5 PM on August 6th. The SCV area will be re-established at the Visitor Center on Sunday evening at 5 PM if necessary. As always current beach conditions can be found by calling the 24 hour information line at 508-487-2100 ext. 0926 or on the parks website. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation, Russ Hughes, Ranger

HURRICANE IRENE BEACH STATUS
Peter,
As of the discussions we have been having now, it looks like the beach will close some time on Saturday. Everything is still in the planning stages as we see what the storm will do and what impacts it will have. However, the decision has been made that when the beach closes, we will not be allowing anyone to stay inside the park. I should know some more later today as we try to finalize our planning. I'll be in touch, either by email or I'll see you on the beach.
