Hi All and greetings from the Mid Cape. Spring has sprung! Our clocks have sprung forward and we love it being lighter longer. We’re getting our rigs ready for the upcoming spring project season and summer is soon to follow. Things at Sandy Neck are going great. The beach has done great over the winter, with very little erosion and is gearing up for 2012 sticker sales to begin. New stickers go on sale April 1st. 2011 Stickers are still good until April 15th. Be prepared the first time you go to the beach, when you go to get your new sticker, or even if you’ve mailed in for renewal, have all your equipment (shovel, tire gage, jack board, spare tire and tow rope) ready for inspection. Check the SNK website for proper specification to avoid delays. www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/There was a new ORV parking plan proposed early in March, but the staff along with the SNK board have decided to revise it. Overcrowding is a huge problem; especially early in the season when the beach is only open a short distance. Please be mindful of your speed as you travel the beach and please park your chase or day vehicle in a respectful manner. With yellow maps on our vehicles, we represent the club and want to set a positive example. SNK Board meetings are televised and posted on the town of Barnstable web site for viewing. It’s a great way to see firsthand, what’s going on down there. Check in to our new and improved MBBA message board for all the latest updates. (Accessible through http://www.mbba.net) or look for info on the MBBA face book page. Wendy and I post any new info we get, as soon as we get it. Our spring projects are only in a few weeks. I hope to see everyone at the Sandy neck project which is Sunday April 29th at 9:30 am. Try to bring a friend or an inactive member to the project. Let’s introduce others to the club and show them what we do. It’s a great way to increase membership, meet new friends and lessen the work load. Feel free to ask questions, comment or voice ideas, to Wendy or me. We’re here for you. See you soon! For beach access, Diane Lomba, Beach Rep. jeepgirl_90@yahoo.com Wendy Paquette, Asst. Hi All and greetings from the mid cape! It’s hard to believe our projects are in full swing! Don’t forget, the Sandy Neck project is Sunday April 29th at 9:30 am. Please arrive early so we’ll be all ready to go on time. Please bring shovels, gloves, grabbers or anything else you think you may need. There will be a general clean up as well as some fencing and the digging out of the handicapped ramp. Lunch will be served as usual. Let’s hope for sunshine!! The gate house is now open 9am-4pm 7 days a week. Stickers have been on-sale since April 1st. The plovers are in and being watched. So far, they don’t seem to be ahead of schedule as of yet, but time will tell how the bird season will play out. Myself and Wendy, went to the April 9th SNK board meeting. They still have not decided on what to do about the proposed parking issue. The staff presented ( along with the original proposal A) a “proposal B” and “proposal C” both of which will be printed in the minutes of the meeting, and posted on the sandy neck board page on the Town of Barnstable web site. www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/Default.aspxThis is the best place to check in for the most updated information on the beach. You can also watch the board meeting online, on-demand. Proposal B allows all SCV and Day Trippers to park on the water side keeping the ORV corridor closest to the dune. Proposal C gave areas for SCV and areas for Day Trippers. None of the proposals have been implemented as of yet. They are still working on finding a way to make the beach safe in the overcrowding situations that exists. Wendy and I try to keep up on the most updated information. Check in to our new and improved MBBA message board for all the latest updates. (Accessible through http://www.mbba.net) or look for info on the MBBA face book page. We post as info is sent to us. Feel free to contact us anytime with questions or comments or ideas. Diane’s email is jeepgirl_90@yahoo.com and Wendy’s is thefisherwoman@comcast.net Hope to see you all the remaining projects coming up and spring meet soon to follow. Bring a friend, get involved, and make a difference! For beach access, Diane Lomba, SNK Beach Rep.

Hi all and greetings from the Mid Cape! I want to thank everyone who turned out for the SNK spring conservation project. We had over 100 volunteers (including the boy scouts). The weather was great, we got a lot done, and had a great time doing it! Sandy Neck is going through some changes this year. There was a slight rate increase for ORV stickers and overnight camping. There are some staffing changes. There is a new Natural Resources Officer who will be out there and a new gate house manager (who we had the pleasure of meeting at the project). The biggest news however is the new ORV parking policy which is now in place. Here is a quick rundown of the basics: 1: When there are beach closures, the staff will be creating camper/chase parking areas. These areas will be first come first served. Whenever possible it will be on the berm side of the ORV corridor. Once filled, the beach will be closed to additional campers. The beach will be re-assessed at 9am the following morning and may re-open if there is adequate parking. 2: When there are beach closures, day trippers will be parked on the berm (when possible), perpendicular to the shoreline. Once the staff determines the beach has been filled, it will be closed the remainder of the day. The beach will be re-assessed at 6pm and may be re-opened to day trippers at that time. 3: patrons will have to stay with their campers overnight. (no leaving your camper over night to ‘save the spot’) 4: speeding will be aggressively enforced 5: when possible the staff will be actively parking patrons 6: over the winter of 2012-2013 these procedure will be discussed in an open forum, with public comment welcome. Again, this is the quick version. The full version will be posted on the SNK web site www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/Default.aspxThe SNK web site will be update in real time and will be updated when the beach is full. The gate house is open from 9am-9pm and will give you the beach status as well (508) 362 8300. Please check before you pack up and drive there. I understand the new policy isn’t ideal, I ask you to remember, as long as you have yellow maps on your vehicles, you represent our club. Please set a positive example. There has been a 37% increase in stickers as of May 14th. With all the other beaches closed part of the season, we are lucky to have some of the beach open, even if we have to abide by the new policy. Keep in mind, this policy is only while the beach has closures. Wendy and I try to keep up on the most updated information. Check in to our new and improved MBBA message board for all the latest updates. (Accessible through http://www.mbba.net) or look for info on the MBBA face book page. We post as info is sent to us. Feel free to contact us anytime with questions or comments or ideas. this Post has been modified from the original post. The day after i posted this, the plan was changed. there was a lot of negitive feed back about it. The part in red is the only part I modifiedHi all, and greetings from the Mid Cape. Before I start with this report, please keep in mind the job of a beach rep. It’s our job, in part, to get the newest information for our respective beach and report it back to you, the membership. We can argue key points, we can suggest ideas or concerns, but in the end, we report. With that being said, here is the newest Sandy Neck beach report. As many of you know, Sandy Neck took a hard hit at the beginning of June with the extreme high tides and coastal flooding. The beach suffered a great loss. It lost all of the symbolic fencing, most of the snow fence, all of the portable toilets, most of the signage and most of the plover nests (one survived out on the point). We rallied on Tuesday to get together an emergency crew to go out to the beach to help. We had a crew on Thursday and another on Friday. In those 2 days, they dug in all the posts from access trail, to trail 2 and pounded in all the steaks from trail 2-6. It was hot and labor intensive. So a huge thank you to: Sheila and Richard Sunman, (who also provided lunch for the crews) Angela Bumpus, Wayne Boutilier, Elena McCorrison, Bob Kelly, Vinny and Joyce Berube, Bobby Lomba, Fred Guidi and also Don Shaw. Thank you all! Your efforts and dedication are greatly appreciated. The Gatehouse is now open daily from 8am-9pm. You can buy a sticker anytime the gatehouse is open. Please have your equipment ready for inspection. The beach is currently open to trail 6 (as of June 13th) however, they are NOT allowing parking after the half way point between trail 4 and 5. You can drive beyond there, but cannot park. As of June 13th, the new parking plan will be in effect. (This is where you can’t shoot the messenger, I only report) This parking plan will most likely be in effect for the rest of the season regardless of how much beach is open. We have hopes that it will be revised if/when the beach is open for parking all the way to trail 6, but there seems to be a slim chance of that. So here it is: Campers (SCV) can not park between trail 1 and trail 2 but pretty much any where else. When the beach is only open to trail 2, SCV can only park between access trail and trail 1 Day-trippers can only park up to tail 4 and not beyond. ( there is a small section of beach between trail 2 and 4 where no one can park)I asked many questions about this. I asked about day-trippers parking with a camper and the answer was to have the camper park nearest the “day tripper area” or shuttle them to your camper. Chase vehicles are allowed to park with there respective camper. However, from what I understand, can access all open areas of the beach, if their camper is on the beach. If not, your chase is a daytrip vehicle. You can watch the meeting here, on the Town of Barnstable web site. www.town.barnstable.ma.us/ondemand/video.asp?video=Sandy+Neck+Board+06%2D11%2D2012+44Min%2Ewmv&class=1&year=2012 As we come up on busy weekends and as closures start to happen, the beach will get very full. There may be times when SCV as well as day-trippers are turned away. Please call the Gatehouse (508) 362-8300 or check the status on the SNK web page www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/Default.aspx off to the right of the main page is a link for the new parking plan. Please check that out. On top of the new parking plan, the staff has implemented a beach wide speed limit of 5 mph. Please mind this speed. They are enforcing it and citations are been issued. In addition, from what I understand, over 30 stickers have been revoked for various reasons and Barnstable Police have issued a handful of OUI’s. On another note, there is a new campaign being launched for dog owners. “bag it, don’t burry it” and pretty much what this is, is awareness of being a responsible dog owner and please bag your dog’s waste and dispose of it properly other then bury it in the sand. (It is a town law) This is really a great thing, so please be responsible and clean up after your pet. The leash law is in effect on the beach as well. Your dog must be on a leash (max 15’) at all times unless swimming. There have been 2 separate dog incidents, and both dogs have been ejected from the beach. No dogs are allowed at this time in the main parking lots or on the public beach. As always, Wendy and I try to keep up to date on all SNK issues and closures. We post updates as they come in. Check the new and improved MBBA message board or FB. You can contact us anytime for questions, comments or concerns. We will do our best to answer what we can. Contact Wendy at thefisherwoman@comcast.net or Diane at Jeepgirl_90@yahoo.com . You can always stop and say hi if you see us out on the beach as well! Hope to see you soon. For beach access, Diane Lomba, SNK beach rep.

Hi... Sorry for the delay. This is a very busy time of year. Anyhow, the best thing to do is bookmark this page www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/Default.aspxAny changes in the beach status are updated here first by the SNK staff. As of now, the beach is open 1.8 miles ( just east of trail 2) campers have their own areas to park in. Keep an eye on the symbolic fence.. There are colored markers tied to it. Campers are green, day trippers are yellow. Then u'll always know where u can park. Rumor has it, the beach will open back up around the 11th of August or just after. That's all I have for now until the meeting next week. Also, I was out there thurs- sun. There were about 110 campers and there was plenty of room. Enjoy

Hi all and greetings from the mid cape! By now, summer has now come to a close, but fall is here and there are still so many weekends left to enjoy the beach. As of the Tuesday after Labor Day, Sandy Neck stickers are now reduced. The prices are, $25 for residents, $35 for Sandwich residents and $50 for none residents. This reduced sticker is good until April 15th 2013, just like all the current stickers. The parking plan is no longer in effect at this time. Although it seemed to work out ok for this past season, they are open for discussions or ideas of how to make it better. They will start discussions at the October 8th meeting. They are also trying to come up with ways to make the air stations more user friendly and to stop any congestion that happens on Sundays. If you have, a suggestion emails it to the park manager or the SNK board. These emails can be found on the town of Barnstable web site www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/Default.aspx this is a great place to get the most recent information. The Speed limit is now set at 15 MPH for the entire beach. However, please still keep and eye out for children. I hope to see you at the upcoming fall projects. Horse Neck and Scusset are coming soon. Check the MBBA web site for dates and times. We also have the fall banquet coming up very soon!!! cyberpeasantphoto.com/mbba/ It’s a great time to see everyone from all the beaches before we settle in for the winter. I do have banquet tickets and will be on the beach during the fall. Stop in and see me or send me a message to let me know you need them and I will find you. Wendy and I are always available for questions and comments. You can contact Wendy at thefisherwoman@comcast.net or Diane at Jeepgirl_90@yahoo.com . We are both on FB as well. Hope to see you soon. Sandy Neck Beach, Sandwich, MA Hi all and greetings from the mid cape! The beach is now in winter mode. The gatehouse is only open 9am-5pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You can call ahead for an appointment if you want to purchase a seasonal sticker during the week. The winter curfew is 8pm. Daytrippers must be off the beach by then unless actively fishing. Overnight camping is permitted year round (with a valid over sand permit) the gate house does not need to be open to access the beach. The nightly fees are waved from October 15th till March. Parking for campers is still on the berm. Parking up along the dune is not permitted. The Sandy Neck staff has presented proposed changes for next year’s season already. A few of the highlights include a possible fee increase. There was some discussion weather it would be of the overnight fee or possibly implementing a day-tripper daily fee. (No decision has been made at this time). There was also a recommendation to implement the new parking plan year round, not just during closures. There was also a discussion among the board about the problems trailers cause. I am sure changes are coming about this topic; again, no decisions have been made at this time. The staff, along with the board are looking for a way to re-do the air up stations, to make them more user friendly and to make that area flow better. They are open to suggestions on this matter. The Sandy neck board meetings are on line, on demand. In addition, the beach keeps their web site very up to date so it is a great site to book mark if you have not already. www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/Default.aspxFeel free to contact us anytime. You can reach me at Jeepgirl_90@yahoo.com and Wendy at thefisherwoman@comcast.net we love questions, comments, or ideas! Or you can join us for a meeting the 2nd Monday of each month. Our club message board is at great way to ask questions or discuss the goings on at the beach WWW.MBBA.NET click on the interactive menu on the top right of the page, then scroll down to message board. It is easy to sign up and there is a lot a great info there. Hope to see you all at the Fall Banquet coming up November 3rd. There we have a general membership meeting. It is your time to bring up an idea for the club! Diane Lomba, Beach Rep.

Hi all and greetings from the Mid Cape! I apologize for not getting a report in the November newsletter. Because of Veterans Day, the SNK board meeting was postponed a week. Anyhow, here is the next best thing. First I want to thank Don Fillman, Scott Morris and of course Wendy, for backing me up at the SNK meeting last night. At last months meeting, there was talk from the park manager that there would be an increase in fees again this year. We found out yesterday, that fee increase would be tabled until next year, (2014). Another item discussed at last nights meeting, was the parking plan. The park manager had said last month that she intended to implement the parking plan year round, not just during closures. From what I understand, by how it was explained to us last night, the parking plan will most likely be in effect year round. However when there are no closures, there are still going to be places where campers cannot park. This will be the low areas where campers cannot safely park without compromising the recommended 30’ corridor. As well as staying dry during high tides. Day Vehicles will still have to park with headlights facing the dunes and all ORV will have to park on the berm. She is likely to make some changes to the regulations including having to park at least 30’ from the symbolic fencing. This is to keep enough room for a corridor safe enough for 2 vehicles to pass. As well as enforcing all ORV vehicles to park on the berm other then against the symbolic fence. The Gatehouse is now in winter mode (as of the Monday after Thanksgiving). There will be patrols but the gatehouse will be by appointment only. Call ahead if you are coming down and need a sticker. (Gatehouse (508) 362-8300) The Sandy Neck web site is updated with the latest info www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/Default.aspxFeel free to contact us anytime. You can reach me at Jeepgirl_90@yahoo.com and Wendy at thefisherwoman@comcast.net we love questions, comments, or ideas! Or you can join us for a meeting the 2nd Monday of each month. Our club message board is at great way to ask questions or discuss the goings on at the beach. Fell free to start a discussion. One last thing, our 2013 renewals will be coming to you soon! Please take a moment to completely fill out the new and improved renewal form. Including your email address and beach you frequent will give the beach reps the ability to send important updates to you. Have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. For continued beach access, Diane Lomba, SNK beach rep.

Greetings all, from the mid cape! We are all in winter mode right now, but that doesn’t stop us form thinking ahead. Our club renewals are being sent in and will soon be marking our calendars for the spring beach projects. The projected date for the SNK beach project is Sunday, April 21st. (subject to change). However, before we get into spring projects, we have a few sportsman shows coming up. Stop into the MBBA booth and say hi! I hope to see you. I took a ride down Sandy Neck, the beginning of January. The beach looked good, for this time of year. Your 2012 SNK permits are good until April 15, 2013. This time of year, beach access is allowed at 8am with an 8pm curfew. Overnight camping in a SCV is permitted with a valid permit. The town will be sending out the renewals starting in March. New permits will be available starting April 1st and the fees will be the same as last year. Bookmark this page for all the latest information. www.town.barnstable.ma.us/SandyNeckPark/Default.aspx In addition to the normal required equipment, a 30’ measuring device will also be required for all SCV. This can be as basic as a pre measured piece of twine marked at 30’. There have been some other changes to the regulation this year. These changes are still in a draft process and are subject to change, but as of now, here are the projected changes. • Personal motorized watercraft is prohibited on SNK except at beach point & great marsh. Transporting via the ORV corridor will be prohibited. (this will not include kayaks and canoes) • SCV cannot be left unattended over night. • SCV with ORV permits from prior years do not need to repeat the trial run unless ownership of said vehicle has changed. • All vehicles shall be parked parallel to the frontal dune at least 30’ from the symbolic fence line. • For ORV corridor safety, beach accessories must be at least 30’ from symbolic fence including (but not limited to) slide outs, awnings, chairs, grills etc. • Further parking location restrictions on SCV over 33’ may be enacted by the park manager. • When symbolic fence is absent, vehicles must be parked at least 15’ from the tow of the dune. • The park manager reserves the right to suspend beach access to a dog as a result of aggressive behavior and/or due to irresponsible pet ownership. If there are concerns about the changes, the board will take into consideration the voice of the public. You can write emails or letters to the board or attend a meeting to speak during public comment. The new regulations will be posted on the SNK web page when finalized. As always, feel free to contact me at Jeepgirl_90@yahoo.com or Wendy at thefisherwoman@comcast.net For questions or comments. For Continued Beach Access, Diane Lomba, SNK Beach Rep.
