Plymouth Long Beach report April 2012
2012 Season
The Crossover Gate will open Saturday, May 26th for Memorial Day Weekend through Monday, September 3rd, Labor Day.
The Crossover gate will be open daily from 9am to 7pm, however, access can be restricted due to permitted vehicle limits, tides, storm conditions, and local, state and federal laws (wetlands regulations, endangered species acts).
I hope to see everyone at the Plymouth conservation project April 15th. It is one of the first of the year and a great kickoff to our spring project schedule. Pray for warm sunny weather, makes for a great day!
There has been some talk among selectmen of a possible option to increase access on long beach yet again. There is a Town owned lease coming up for renewal soon. The discussions are to possibly revert that piece back to town use and not renew the lease on the property. Potentially making more parking available both for beach goers and for future shell fishing. This property is located near prime shell fish beds that are near being re opened for use after a lot of work to make them viable again. So we will keep our ears open for future developments on this issue.
The seasonal partial ban on dogs at Long Beach initiated by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (DFW) in 2010 is continuing for the 2012 season. The ban is in effect from April 1 through September 30 and affects all Town properties north of the “Day Parking Area”, which is a 4x4 parking area located approximately one mile north of the main parking area. Leashed dogs will be allowed on Ryder Way and the beachfront from the main parking lot north to the Day Parking Area, excluding areas closed for shorebird nesting.
