Nauset Update: There are currently 2 active broods with a total of 6 unfledged piping plover chicks between the Pochet Walkway and trail #1 on the south end of Nauset Beach. The closure will be in effect until all piping plover chicks in the Pochet Area fledge. The first chick hatch June 6 but do not know the date of the last chick that hatched. It takes 25-30 days to fledge after they hatch. The Nauset Beach parking lots rermain open and unaffected by nesting birds. Pedestrians can still fish, surf, and sunbath provided they stay out of the symbolic fenced areas. Vehicles with a 2012 Off Road vehical sticker will be permitted to park in the main parking lot during the period of off road closure. Nauset oversdand stickers are on sale. The process remains the same as years past. Prices for the season and current beach conditions on their website. www.town.orleans.ma.us/Pages/OrleansMA_Parks/indexEnjoy the summer to the fullest, Bill Sheehan Nauset Beach Representative
