Keep your fingers crossed for Nauset this weekend. Paul Fulcher from the Town of Orleans has reported that all the nests have hatched out including the one that had been reported as overdue. Currently, there are two broods in the Pochet area with a total of four chicks. There are other nests both north and south of Pochet but according to Paul, if these other broods stay put, we could be looking at August 9th as a best case, worst case could be around August 14th. He also said he wasn't to worried about the terns. Apparently, the terns have stayed on the front beach. Surprisingly, some of the plovers in Pochet had moved out only to be forced back in by the nesting terns further south. Get the rigs ready and put them on stand by.

Nauset is open, however for now it is only 9am to 5pm daily. There is still one plover in the pochet area that they are waiting for it to fledge. They lost it for three days, opened the beach up, and then it reappeared. Hopefully it will be flying by the end of the week and Nauset will be fully opened.
There is still a beach closure between trail 3 and 4 on the front beach so if you at heading to the point take the back trail and come out on 4 or remain on the back trail. The point is closed at trail 7 and around the point due to nesting birds. There is plenty of beach otherwise. Self contained vehicle can remain on the beach over night at this time as long as they do not move. and are on the beach before 4:30pm.
Caution as I was on the beach today and scientists tagged a great white shark off of trail 4. They followed the shark for an hour. It swam in near trail 4 approximately 20 yards off shore and broke the surface twice. Quite a seen. Be aware if you see the spotter plane circling over the water where you are. The harthingy boat will follow soon. Be aware of your surroundings in the water at all times.
Enjoy the rest of the summer.
