My Onan Camp Power 2500 watt propane powered generator is running like crap, it starts (unless wet) but idles rough and spits & sputters when I put a load on it, I figure I need a tune up, but Onans web site will only show me service centers in Texas for some reason.
Question: Has any one had their generator serviced and can you recommend them after going through the experience?

Peter, I had real good luck at South Shore generator in Wareham, a few years ago, when I had a similar problem with the Onan in my old motorhome. www.ssgen.com/(508)295-7336 even though I had an older unit, they were able to get the parts I needed, in short order, and even had most of them in stock.

Sounds like a carbon track on the plug wire or coil.

I wanted to post the results of my generator problem, after searching around some more I went to Ralco Electric in Westport 800-867-2526 for service and I'm happy to report that it was a very satisfactory experience, they went above and beyond to make sure I was satisfied, they were very professional and I feel that the repair was very inexpensive. Tommy was correct by the way, it was the plug and wire, but it was good to get the whole thing serviced and I should have piece of mind for the summer. It's nice to know they are there, work on RV's and are factory authorized to service Onan, Generacs and others. I highly recommend them. Peter

I also just had my Onan serviced at Ralco. Although they took some time the problems they found were significant (broken pin on the fly wheel, needing two coils, and a full tune up) their pricing was very reasonable and the service very professional.

Had a problem with Onan generator shutting down after 15 min. Then could restart after 5 min and would run again about 15 min. Brought Motorhome to my mechanic and he immediately checked oil, which was just a little below half on crosscuts. He said Onan generators must be always above the half mark to full. Now it runs perfect. "MUST KEEP OIL LEVEL BETWEEN HALF AND FULL"
