I am writing this as a follow up to a question about cell phone boosters I had asked earlier this year and also as a response to some discussion back in May about cell service at Race Point. I just returned from a week on the Race. Part of my equipment this year included a new Wilson Trucker cell phone antenna and a Wilson Booster. I have Sprint. I read that a lot of you have AT&T so this may or may not help. Like some of you, when I first tried to use my phone, I had plenty of bars but could not connect. After some trial and error, I found that if I locked my phone into roam only, I could call out and receive calls perfectly. Some limited roaming is included in my plan. I made one call out every morning and one every evening to elderly family without a single problem. I could hear them clearly and they could hear me. It was very nice not to have to keep leaving the beach.

This year I got a Wilson Dual Band amp and their Dual Band directional Yagi antenna. The results were much better than last year with 90% effectiveness but had to point it toward Truro/Wellfleet to make it work but TONS of bars pointing it due west. Again AT&T had no answer to why no reception from there. A friend living in P-Town said part of the reception problem is from cruise ships not turning off their powerful transponders and jamming cell reception. They are supposed to shut them off.
Thanks for the roaming tip we will try that the next time up there.
