Thanks Kris. I have heard of that before. It would mean the employees of the good old USA would have to put some time in and do actual work. It's easier to close the beaches.

Hi Scott, UPDATE Race Point North and South have been closed because of Least Terns, not Plovers, the Plovers (near the SCV areas) have fledged. The issue with terns is that they have nested right at the two access trails effectively blocking access to areas that could be open, however the predators have been hitting them hard. Race Point North is opening today for 2/10 of a mile for vehicles only including SCV's, (no pedestrians or walking by the nests) but it could still be for only a couple of weeks until the birds hatch, after that it will most likely close.
It will be awhile before the south side opens.
Peter

If you look at the map there is a nice area open at High Head that extends to Head of the Meadow beach, many ORV users are taking advantage of this beautiful area, but there is plenty of room. Also if you get a chance check out Coast Guard beach after 6 PM, it it a nice ride and the cliffs are spectacular. There is no air up station at High Head but there are gas stations close by with air hoses. The area at Race Point North should be expanding as the birds mature so it could extend to the crossover soon.

High Head is in Truro, A right off route 6 after the big yellow high wind warning sign (across from the white cottages) right at the beginning tip of Pilgrim Lake (aka East Harbor), follow High Head road till it forks to the left, this is a dirt road that leads to a small parking area where you can air down, then proceed through the parking lot and follow the oversand trail to the beach. At the base of the dune heading up over to the beach there is a small road to the left that we call the switchback trail, it's got some sharp turns, but it's easier to get up if you have a problem with the hill. Check it out on foot before proceeding as it's a pain to back out of. Have a great time and enjoy the beach. Peter

It's about that time of year at High Head....We were there the week-end before last and it is starting it's annual muck fest. The only time the water was clear was at low tide. All the brown stuff is in the water and sometimes the smelly green would show up on the sand. Maybe it was better this past week-end? Not that I'm complaining!!! It was better than smelling asphalt!

Yep....... plenty of "Muck" out in the High head, head of the meadow area. Lots of lost beach from this last storm as well. The trail between High head and the meadow is impassable at high tide and a few hours either way.
