hi folks, i had a sandy neck beach sticker 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. mostly just bringing my kids and grandchildren. a little fishiing for me. spent a few nights enjoying dinner and a beach fire. last year a friend recommended nauset. i absolutely love the beach and trails. kids were very dissapointed we could not sit and relax by beach fire. a friend told me in previous years he would just fill out a permit at shack entrance and all was good. can anyone explain to me why this a such a problem at nauset that there are no beach fires allowed. i will most likely return back to sandy neck as this is a HUGE part of beach fun to them. thanx

We have always been able to have self-contained fires at nauset beach. Upon arriving at gatehouse we would always get a permit. Unless the winds are howling, we were always allowed a permit for a fire, because we always had a SELF-CONTAINED fire-pit. It is not like Sandy Neck where uncontained fires are allowed. The problem with uncontained fires is that they can be left unburned and buried along with the unburned logs that tend to litter the beach and makes for leveling the motorhome a difficult process. So perhaps you did not have a self-contained fire pit, or the winds were to strong? Good Luck!

Sorry about the delay in answering you. We were all at the Race Point/ Nauset project. I use to use the bottom of an old water heater tank. Anything you have to contain the fire will be fine. Hopefully someone from the Sandy Neck crew can help you out.

A 1/2 keg cut in half is great as well.
The reason for no open fires is folks have buried a live fire, then an unsuspecting walker etc. puts a foot in live coals, NOT GOOD. Never bury a fire. I foe one think the mess open fires make when not completly burned is aweful when you want to set up camp in the spot with all the fire debris.
