The parking in the Provinceland Visitors Center after July 1 issue has come up again and this year they will definitely be counting days against our 21, they didn’t do it last year, but this year it will be enforced, you will need a dump pass displayed in your windshield while parked overnight in the visitors center or risk losing your sticker.

There is a plover nest located between the Race Point South access and the bathing beach which is expected to hatch around the 3rd of July and will close the beach until they fledge. Race Point North is loaded with nests still incubating so there is not much of a chance of an SCV area there. The predators are having a field day this year so this situation could change, the pole line route to Hatches is open and ORV access on the north side will continue until the birds hatch. I'll keep you updated. Peter

Race Point South SCV area is open for 2/10 of a mile. Plenty of room to also expand and hold everyone. Hatch window now is 7/11 - 7/15. Probably hatching the 13th. Get out on the beach and enjoy it now ! Bill

I felt bad for Russ & Katy having to kick everyone off on Saturday, the bio-techs never gave any warning about the terns hatching.

They are closing the RPN access up to Delineation Post 7 on the north beach. There are no more shorebird nests beyond this point, so we should have the pole line road open to Hatches Harbor, the crossover road and 0.7 miles to the right of the crossover road open. This is just over one mile of beach. High Head also has some beach open just north around the access and approximately 0.1 miles to the south to the cut.
Map later,

To all, The beach near the crossover road has accreted enough to allow some SCV's to navigate this area safely. I have posted a SCV area on Race Point North beach app. 0.1 miles west of the end of the corridor (near DP 9). It is app. 0.1 miles long. The SCV restriction will only allow 4x4 pickup trucks with slip-on units to drive to this area. Other SCV's will not be permitted to access this area due to the terrain on the pole line road and soft beach sand condition east of the crossover road. All of the plovers have fledged or been eaten at this point our issue is with terns... Least terns on Race point... Don't shoot the messenger! Race Point North, as of Wednesday, has 10 unfledged LT chicks and 12 nests. The bulk of these are either side of the access and three unfledged chicks are at delineation post 7. Race Point South, as of Wednesday, has four LT nests and three chicks either side of the access. If the nests contain eggs that have not hatched yet it could be a long wait...Terns fledge in about 24 days after hatching. Peter

Race Point Beach... 4WD slide in's still have an area on the beach, everyone else, I just wanted to let you know, this weekend is the Pan Mass Challenge, (GO KELLY & KIM), but it will not impact the SCV area at the visitors center, I expect it will be crowded but the area in the lower lot is ours. Race Point Beach Report
The park has agreed to allow some of the 2 wheel drive motor homes out on the beach VIA the pole line route, it’s not everyone but it’s a start: SCV’s up to 30 feet will be allowed to travel down the pole route to the SCV area on Race Point North between the hours of 6AM to 9AM and 6PM and 8PM daily Before and after those hours vehicles will have to stay in the Visitors Center SCV area until the access times.

The beach continues to accrete to the right of the crossover road on Race Point North Beach. At this time the Pole Line Road remains the only access to Race Point North and Hatches Harbor. The Self-Contained Vehicle area is being increased in size from 0.1 mile to 0.2 miles in size. All SCV's 30' long or less and all four-wheel drive SCV units will be allowed to traverse the Pole Line Road to the SCV area. Because the Pole Line Road is the only access to heavily visited ORV areas, movement along the Pole Line Road by SCV's to the SCV area will be restricted to 6-9 AM and 6-8 PM.
All larger SCV's still have the option to stay in the Province Lands Visitor Center parking lot. SCV operators arriving outside of one of the two travel windows may also stage in the Province Lands Visitor Center parking lot.

Race Point South is open! There is still a tern nest to the left of the access, but we are hoping for the best. There is about 4/10 of a mile open with 1/10 mile SCV area. We are also adjusting the Pole line route travel times to 6-9AM and 6-10PM also 4WD Slide in SCV's are not restricted to the travel times. The visitors center SCV area will remain open as a temporary holding area.

Peter,
The Race Point South Beach will open 0.4 miles this afternoon. A SCV area will be established without any SCV restrictions.
The Race Point North Beach SCV area may be accessed by 2-wheel drive SCV's via the Pole Line Road between 6-9 AM and 6-10 PM. This extends the evening access by two hours. There are no time limits on the 4x4 units on Race Point North Beach.
The Province Lands Visitor Center parking lot outer loop will remain open for units that cannot negotiate the south access hill or are 2-wheel drive and over 30', which remains the limit to access the Race Point North SCV area.
